Fullerton, CA (September 25, 2023) — Fullerton residents receiving healthcare insurance through Medi-Cal and CalOptima need to renew their enrollment to avoid any lapse in coverage.

For the first time since the start of the pandemic, Medi-Cal is returning to yearly re-enrollment for those covered by the state-run health insurance program.

Everyone in Medi-Cal is being asked to re-enroll during their renewal month now through mid-2024.

This marks a return to the same process enrollees went through prior to 2020 with Medi-Cal as we continue to move past the pandemic.

Look for a letter about two months before your annual renewal date, which typically is the anniversary of when you first enrolled in Medi-Cal.

Renewal forms are time-sensitive. You’ll have 60 days to renew your information once you get a form in the mail.

If you don’t renew within 60 days, you could see a lapse in coverage. You would be able to re-enroll later, but it’s easier to renew when it’s your time.

You’ll also get multiple reminders to ensure there is no lapse in your coverage.

Many Fullerton residents receive coverage through Medi-Cal. We urge everyone in our City covered by Medi-Cal to go online and re-enroll by updating your account with CalOptima, the county agency that administers Medi-Cal here in Fullerton and across Orange County.

CalOptima also works with the Orange County Social Services Agency to reach out to Medi-Cal enrollees, so you’ll want to watch for that as well.

But you don’t have to wait.

You can take action now by going to CalOptima.org/Renew.

Renewals began in April and continue for 14 months through June 2024.

When re-enrolling, you’ll update information about yourself and your family, including household income, as Medi-Cal is for those with lower household incomes to ensure they have access to healthcare coverage.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Update your information by calling (800) 281-9799
  • Make sure you have an online account and update at MyBenefitsCalWin.org
  • Watch your mail for a yellow envelope from the county Social Services Agency about 60 days before your current renewal is up
  • Complete and return the renewal form within 60 days or submit your renewal online, by phone or in-person to ensure your continued coverage
