Fullerton to Host Third Redistricting Workshop on February 10
Post Date:01/26/2022 9:16 AM

The City of Fullerton has begun the redistricting process to draw City Council voting district boundaries. The City of Fullerton moved to district-based City Council Member elections in 2016, and like other districted cities, must redraw district boundaries following each decennial census. Fullerton will use data from the 2020 Census to redraw district lines to reflect local population changes.

The Fullerton City Council created a seven-person Redistricting Advisory Commission to represent the Fullerton community and help facilitate the current redistricting process. In addition to two redistricting Advisory Commission public hearings, the City will host three virtual redistricting community workshops with live interpretation in Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese to gain feedback on the redistricting process from the Fullerton community.

The City held the first two redistricting workshops in January and now invites Fullerton residents to join the third community workshop on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 6 pm on Zoom. Attend the workshop on Zoom (www.zoom.us/join) with the Zoom Meeting ID 83834958455 or join on the phone by dialing 1-669-900-9128.

The redistricting community workshop will review the redistricting process and demonstrate how to use available paper and electronic redistricting mapping tools. The City encourages residents provide essential community feedback to describe their communities of interest, neighborhoods and geographical landmarks during the workshop.

The City also encourages residents to visit the redistricting webpage. The webpage has background information on the redistricting process, a calendar of upcoming meetings, redistricting mapping tools and information on providing public comment. Recordings of the first two workshops are available on the website.

In addition to attending the workshop, you can participate in the process by drawing a draft district map. Visit the Draw A Map Webpage and learn how to draw and submit your redistricting map. The public can also pick up paper mapping kits at Fullerton City Hall, City Clerk's Office - 303 West Commonwealth Avenue, Fullerton, CA 92832.

Submit your maps via email to districtelections@cityoffullerton.com by the draft maps deadline at 11:59 pm on February 10, 2022 for presentation at the next redistricting advisory meeting.
