Reporting an Act of Graffiti in Progress

Defacing City or private property, without the owner’s permission is an act of Vandalism and can be a Felony or Misdemeanor crime, depending on what is being defaced and the value.

If you witness someone defacing City or private property, call 911 immediately. Law Enforcement generally advises against trying to stop vandals on your own. Vandals have been known to assault private citizens trying to stop them. Instead, be a good witness and attempt to give as much information as possible to dispatchers. Information we will need includes:

  • The location, including a physical address, where the graffiti is occurring.
  • A description of the individuals doing the graffiti (clothing description, sex, race, height & weight, any visible or distinguishing marks).
  • A vehicle description if one is seen.
  • Last direction of travel if they leave prior to Police arriving.

Reporting Existing Graffiti

The City of Fullerton and the Fullerton Police Department take a proactive stance against graffiti and try to remove it as soon as we are made aware of the act. If graffiti is allowed to remain, it becomes a blight on the community and may lead to more graffiti or other crimes. If you happen to observe graffiti that has already occurred and you are not the victim, the Fullerton Police Department appreciates you reporting it through one of the following methods:

  • Graffiti Hotline: You cay call the City’s 24-hour hotline at (714) 738-3108, to report graffiti vandalism. You will be prompted to leave a detailed description including the type of vandalism and the location.
  • Online Graffiti Removal Request
  • Smart Phone Users can download a free application called “MyFullerton”, which allows users to report graffiti through their phone and include the GPS location and a photograph. Information is automatically sent to the City of Fullerton. The application can be downloaded for free from a Smartphone’s App or Google Play store.

If you have been the victim of graffiti and would like to file a report, you may do one of the following:

  • Call the Police Department at (714) 738-6800 to file a police report.
  • Come to the Police Department Front Desk to report the incident in person.

No matter what method you use, you can report graffiti anonymously.
