One of Fullerton's three astronaut parks, Grissom Park is dedicated to the memory of Virgil "Gus" Grissom, who devoted his life to the United States space program. Gus Grissom is noted as the first man in history to make two voyages into outer space. He died during a fire while conducting a pre-launch simulation of the Apollo One command module on January 27, 1967.
