One of Fullerton's three astronaut parks, Chaffee Park is dedicated to the memory of Roger B. Chaffee, who devoted his life to the United States Space Program. A lieutenant commander of the navy, Roger Chaffee was originally selected to NASA's Apollo Program in 1963. He died during a fire while conducting a pre-launch simulation of the Apollo One command module on January 27, 1967.
